The John Sperry Trail, that runs from Davis Way to Frost Court was completed and dedicated in 2017. It was named in honor of a local resident, much loved and respected by the community. It connects Davis Way to Frost and Lyon Courts. The original work was overseen and partially paid for by the Timber Cove Homes Association. It is a challenging trail, but very rewarding. In some seasons your quiet journey is serenaded by Timber Cove Creek, and you can take a rest to listen at "Tommy's Bench". See a slideshow of photos of work on the John Sperry Trail in 2016 and 2017 below.
Umland Circle-Smith Court trail begun, March 2018
We opened approximately 1600 feet of trail for the able-bodied hiker over the March 17, 18, 2018, weekend. Although this represents only about one third of that total trail length, we believe it contains the most challenging terrain. You can now walk along a groomed trail all the way from Umland Circle to Smith Court. Soon after this work was completed, the Timber Cove Homes Association published an illegal edict stating that the trails did not exist and forbidding property owners to use them. This necessitated a law suit to clear our property titles that went on from Oct. 2018 to May 2022.
On those days in March 2018, this flag was our temporary marker during the work weekend, symbol of civil rights under U.S. law. We finally prevailed and the flag flew again on November 19, 2022, when work resumed. See below.
WORK RESUMes on umland Circle-Smith Court Trail November 2022
After our long battle to preserve our trails in court (see our "Facts and Issues" page) we were able to resume work on the stretch of trail between Umland Circle and Smith Court where we left off in March 2018. It was wonderful to be a part of a constructive group of residents, working together to do something good for the community. In this case our volunteers are putting in reinforcements and stairs down a steep hillside near Umland CIrcle on November 19, 2022.
Umland circle-Smith Court trail opens: April 16, 2023!
The first few photos will help you find the two entrances on Smith Court and the entrance on Umland Circle. We now have approximately two miles of private hiking trails between Umland Circle and Smith Ct., and it is stunning from start to finish!
Rust Creek Trail restored April 20, 21, 2024
This trail connects Umland Circle to Rust and Hudson Drives in Timber Cove. It is a shorter destination trail that we have named Rust Creek Trail. It focuses on a lovely creek protected by a pedestrian bridge. See short videos to hear the sounds of Rust Creek Trail:
This trail has been used for decades by some residents and now it has been resurveyed, restored, and improved. It connects Umland Circle with two different points on Ruoff Road in the center of our subdivision. It is a relatively level and easy walk, allowing you to enjoy the charms of our forested community without too much exertion.
